Our Story

Prologue

At Plotline, every bottle is a narrative — shaped by heritage, place, and the choices that guide it. Founded in 2023, Plotline was born from a simple conviction: that the world’s greatest wines tell stories not only of the land they come from, but of the traditions that inspired them.
Our wines draw on the grace and elegance of Europe’s most revered Bordeaux estates, yet they are rooted in the exceptional vineyards of Napa Valley. By working sustainably with Bordeaux varietals — particularly Merlot and the right-bank blends we admire most — we seek to craft wines of balance, character, and restraint. Our wines honor Old World elegance while speaking in the unmistakable voice of Napa.
Every vintage is a chapter in our journey: informed by travels through the great wine regions of the world, inspired by the winemakers we’ve met, and shaped by the belief that less can be more. Rather than the overt opulence Napa is often known for, we aim for nuance — wines with subtle arcs and graceful conclusions, meant to be savored now and remembered later.
This is the story of Plotline: a modern Napa winery writing its own narrative, one bottle at a time.

Meet The Winemaker

Sally Johnson Blum

Sally is a consulting winemaker producing wines for clients in Napa Valley, Washington State, Sonoma County and beyond. She joined the Plotline team in 2023 to help craft our inaugural release of wines.
Sally’s winemaking style is grounded in exceptional vineyards, classical winemaking techniques, and a focus on authenticity, balance and elegance. “It’s a real pleasure to be part of the Plotline team,” Sally said. “While grounded in Napa Valley, the Plotline wines have been informed by an international perspective and an appreciation for graceful wines.”
Prior to launching her consulting firm in 2023, Sally spent 15 years at Pride Mountain Vineyards and eight years at St. Francis Winery, and she worked at Robert Mondavi Winery in Oakville and St. Hallett Winery in South Australia.
Over the course of her career, Sally has garnered many accolades, including two 100-point scores from the critic Robert Parker and four wines on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines in the World list. Her wines have been served at numerous White House State dinners and luncheons, and she was named one of Glamour magazine’s “10 Badass Women Winemakers.”
When not traveling to pursue her passion for making wine, Sally spends time with her family, including her husband and business partner (designer, artist and musician Max Blum), their two teenage children, and their rambunctious pair of Boston Terriers.
